Box Score

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. — Brian McAfee, TJ Parthemer and Eric Upton combined on a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts, and Matt Hall was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to help the baseball team win its sixth straight game with a 4-0 victory Saturday at Villanova. All four runs were driven in with two outs.

McAfee, a sophomore, earned his first victory of the season and the seventh of his career with six strong innings. He picked up his defense, stranding runners in scoring position in the second and fifth innings after errors. He fanned seven, issuing just one walk.

By the time he exited, Cornell (10-5) had already built a four-run lead. Kevin Tatum hit a two-out double to right in the second, then came around to score on Ben Swinford's single to left.

The Big Red stretched its lead to 3-0 in the third inning. Tom D'Alessandro stroked a two-out double to center, then scored on Hall's single up the middle. Hall alertly took second on the throw home, which then allowed him to score on Spenser Souza's single to right. Hall later drove in the final run in the fifth inning with another single, scoring Collin McGee after the freshman catcher led off the frame with a double to left and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by JD Whetsel.

The left-handed relief team of Parthemer and Upton took care of the rest, tossing three innings of no-hit ball to close out the game. The duo combined for six strikeouts and no walks.

Cornell will go for its second straight series sweep when it takes on Villanova again at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
