ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore catcher
Mark Quatrani was named a First Team All-Ivy selection for the second consecutive year, highlighting five Cornell baseball players who received All-Ivy honors from the Ivy League on Thursday afternoon.
The five All-Ivy honorees mark Cornell's highest number of all-league players in a season since 2018, when it had two first-team, one second-team, and two honorable mention selections.
Quatrani became the first Cornell player to repeat as a First Team All-Ivy selection since Ryan Krainz in 2017 (shortstop) and 2018 (second base). The Springfield, Pa., native is now the 14th Big Red player to earn multiple first-team all-league selections and the 10th player to repeat as a first-team honoree in consecutive seasons, joining Ed Cott (1968, 1969), Tom Boettcher (1971, 1972), Joe Guarascio (1975, 1976), Marlin McPhail (1981, 1982), Bill Walkenbach (1995, 1996), Erik Rico (2001, 2002), Nathan Ford (2008, 2009), David Rochefort (2009, 2010), Mickey Brodsky (2010, 2011), and Krainz. No Big Red backstop has been named as a first-team all-league selection in consecutive years since Cott in 1968 and 1969.
Concluding the 2025 season as one of four Cornell players to have played in all 34 games and one of three to start each contest, Quatrani batted .318 with 10 doubles, six home runs, and 24 RBI. He led the team in runs scored (29), hits (42), total bases (70), hit by pitches (13), and registered a team-high 13 multi-hit games. Quatrani posted a quartet of three-hit games, against Towson (March 16), Columbia (April 5), Binghamton (April 15), and Dartmouth (April 25).
Excelling in the field, Quatrani committed no errors over 225 fielding chances (201 putouts, 24 assists), making him one of five Ivy League players to attain a perfect fielding percentage with at least 100 fielding opportunities. He also caught 12 of the 51 runners who attempted to steal on him (23.5 percent), boasting the highest caught stealing total in the Ivy League, ahead of Princeton's Jake Bold (10) and Dartmouth's Zackarie Casebonne (10).
Senior two-way player
Ryan Porter was named a Second Team All-Ivy selection as a utility player and tabbed Cornell's Academic All-Ivy selection, owning a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average as an applied economics and management major.
Starting in 24 of his 31 appearances during the season, Porter primarily served as Cornell's designated hitter and made five starts in the corner outfield positions. He also made eight pitching appearances, all out of the bullpen and in the first half of the season, posting a 2-0 record with a 7.84 ERA over 10 1/3 innings pitched. Hurling four scoreless relief outings, Porter struck out a season-high three batters during his 2 2/3 innings of work against UMBC (March 1), where he earned his first victory of the season. His other victory came against Yale on March 22.
Offensively, Porter led the team in numerous batting categories, including batting average (.323), slugging percentage (.647), doubles (12), and home runs (7). Porter's .324 batting average ranked 11th among qualifying Ivy League batters after the regular season, while his .647 slugging percentage led all Ancient Eight hitters, ahead of Columbia's Sam Miller, the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year, by 19 points.
Cornell concluded with a trio of Honorable Mention All-Ivy selections, which included junior right-handed pitcher
Carson Mayfield, senior first baseman
Kyle Musser, and senior outfielder
John Quinlan.
Mayfield started all 11 of his appearances, posting a 2-2 record with a 4.26 ERA over 61 1/3 innings. He struck out a team-high 56 batters, issued only 26 walks, and held opponents to an impressive .191 batting average, allowing 41 hits in 215 at-bats. His 4.26 ERA ranked seventh among qualifying Ivy League pitchers and was the fourth-best figure among starting pitchers who served as their team's starter in at least 75 percent of their appearances. Mayfield's .191 batting average against ranked third in the Ancient Eight, trailing Yale's Jack Ohman (.162), the unanimous Pitcher of the Year, and Harvard's Truman Pauley (.173).
Playing a career-high 25 games, all of which were starts at first base and designated hitter, Musser posted a .262 batting average with four doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 20 RBI. He had eight multi-hit games, highlighted by five three-hit efforts, tying Porter for the team lead in games with at least three hits. Additionally, Musser did not commit any errors over his 136 fielding chances (128 putouts, eight assists), joining Quatrani as one of five Ivy League players with a perfect fielding percentage among those with at least 100 fielding opportunities.
Quinlan started 31 of his 34 appearances this season, serving as one of four Cornell players to participate in every game. Leading the team in RBI (25) and stolen bases (11), Quinlan batted .246 for the season, with six doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 25 RBI. Three of his five home runs came during the Big Red's final series of the regular season against Princeton, which resulted in him earning Ivy League Player of the Week honors on May 6. With a knack for reaching base, Quinlan maintained a 35-game on-base streak dating back to the 2024 season, highlighted by reaching base safely in the Big Red's first 27 games.
