ITHACA, N.Y. – Three Cornell gymnasts won individual titles and Cornell posted a season-high score of 193.250 to finish second at the 2013 ECAC Gymnastics Championship on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena. Cornell's 193.250 was just shy of its team record of 193.675 set at the 2008 USAG team finals.
The Big Red crowned a pair of individual vault champs in
Alicia Bair and
Sarah Hein, who each scored 9.800s to lead a field of 36 gymnasts.
Melanie Jorgensen, who was named ECAC Specialist of the Year after the meet, registered a 9.825 on bars to also pace the field.
Penn won the meet with a 193.725, going 48.225 or better on all four events. William & Mary was a close third with a 192.950. Rounding out the six-team field was Temple (192.175), Yale (192.100) and Brown (191.500).
The three individual champions weren't the lone Big Red gymnasts to shine in front of the home crowd.
McKenna Archer (tied for fifth, 9.750) and Samatha VanderPutten (ninth, 9.700) led the way on vault, while
Sarah Hein (tied for eighth, 9.700) was a top 10 finisher on bars. Archer also landed on the podium with a third place tie with her 9.800 on beam while
Hannah Clark tied for sveenth on the event with a 9.775. The Big Red had Hein also post an eighth-place effort in floor with a 9.750.
