4/20/2013 10:47:00 AM

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After a 20-minute delay and a course change due to inclement weather, the No. 12 Big Red men's heavyweight rowing team came up just short in the hunt for the Stagg Points Plate, falling to No. 10 Navy, but placing ahead of No. 13 Syracuse.

Navy also won the Goes Cup in a tight varsity eight race, crossing the line in 5:37.5, just 1.1 second ahead of the Big Red.

Cornell earned its lone victory in the first freshmen race, which it dominated the field, winning by nearly seven seconds, finishing in 6:02.2.

In addition to the varsity eight, the Midshipmen also won the second varsity eight and the third varsity eight.

The heavyweights are back in action next weekend as they travel to New Haven, Conn., to take on the Bulldogs and Princeton in a race for the Carnegie Cup on Saturday, April 27.
