Chodas Helps Men's Soccer Remain Unbeaten, Beat St. Joseph's

9/21/2013 9:54:00 PM

Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Junior defender Peter Chodas helped men's soccer roll to its fifth consecutive win on Saturday, scoring the game's only goal as the Big Red downed St. Joseph's (1-3-3) 1-0.

Cornell applied suffocating offensive pressure early, registering eight shots in the first 33 minutes before St. Joseph's could manage even one towards the Big Red net. However, the Hawks were able to escape the first half unscathed, as the two teams entered the break even 0-0.

It was late in the 64th minute that Chodas finally solved Hawks' keeper Andrew D'Ottavi, sailing a shot into the high left corner to put the Big Red on top 1-0 and seal the win. The goal is the second of his career.

The shutout is the second for the team and for goalkeeper Zach Zagorski this season. Zagorski made two saves in the win.

Senior Patrick Slogic led the team with two shots on goal, while Conor Goepel directed the most attempts (3) in D'Ottavi's direction.

Now 5-0-1 the Big Red extended its non-conference regular season unbeaten streak to 23 games with an 19-0-4 record through those contests.

Cornell returns home to host Lafayette on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
