Men's Polo Starts Semester With 21-11 Win Over Skidmore

ITHACA, N.Y. -- A day after picking up his 850th career coaching victory, Cornell polo coach David Eldredge was right back at it as the men's team opened the spring semester with a 21-11 triumph over Skidmore on Saturday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 7-3 with the win.

Ignacio Masias, Emerson Bilodeau and Hakan Karabey (returned from a semester abroad) started for the Big Red. The Thoroughbreds put up a could battle in the first and took the lead 5-4 on a two-point shot. Cornell responded with three quick goals to close out the first ahead 7-5. The Big Red jumped out in the second with a quick two-pointer of their own and then scored four of the next six to take a 13-7 lead into the half. Karabey gave way to Carter Loftus in the third chukker and the Thoroughbreds held tight, matching the Big Red's four goals to head into the fourth with Cornell up 17-11. Karabey replaced Bilodeau in the fourth and Cornell held Skidmore scoreless, bringing home the win 21-11. Masias tallied 10 with Karabey, Loftus and Bilodeau each adding 3 goals. There was one pony goal and one penalty goal as well.
