Kerry Schubert scored a pair of second-half goals, and the women's soccer team rallied from a pair of deficits only to concede a late goal in a 3-2 loss Monday at St. Bonaventure.
Cornell (6-6) shook off a halftime to equalize twice, but ultimately fell to .500 for the first time since the onset of the season. Schubert's first goal came in the 52nd minute when she converted a goal-mouth scramble from the 6-yard box. After St. Bonaventure (6-7-1) took a 2-1 lead again on Abby Maiello's one-on-one finish from 10 yards, Schubert pulled the Big Red back even in the 62nd minute by converting a rebound off of Bonnies goalie Beth Moore.
But St. Bonaventure found the final answer on Maiello's second goal of the night with just 1:27 left in the game. With just five of the Big Red's starting 11 making their first, second or third start of the season, St. Bonaventure jumped out to early lead with Laruen Hill's strike in the 12th minute. Hill also assisted on Maiello's winner.
The two-goal game was the first in Schubert's collegiate career. She entered the game with three career goals, including one earlier this year in the Big Red's 5-0 rout of VMI to kick of the Big Red Shootout.
Cornell returns home for an Ivy contest against Yale at 1 p.m. Saturday at Berman Field in Ithaca. The game also represents the front end of the Big Red's only back-to-back games this season, as the squad will travel to New Jersey Institute of Technology for its final non-league game of the season at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
