BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Senior Dan Lintner opened the game with a natural hat trick and finished the day with a career-high six goals as the No. 16 Big Red men's lacrosse team defeated Binghamton, 14-8. With the win, Cornell improves to 2-0 overall, while the Bearcats slip to 1-2.

Senior face-off man Doug Tesoriero continued his solid play, winning 14-of-23 restarts, scooping nine ground balls and handing out one assist, while sophomore goalie Brennan Donville made eight saves, including five in the fourth quarter to hold off Binghamton's comeback bid.

Matt Donovan tallied three goals and Joe Paoletta had a career day with three assists and his first collegiate goal. John Hogan also finished with four points (two goals, two assists).

Cornell held the advantage in shots (44-26) and ground balls (33-22), while going 13-of-14 on clear attempts. The Big Red also went 4-of-5 in man-up situations and held the Bearcats to just 2-of-7.

Binghamton was led by Paul O'Donnell (two goals, one assist) and Michael Antinozzi (one goal, two assists) with three points apiece. In goal, Max Schefler made 11 saves, including several spectacular ones, to keep the Bearcats in the contest.

Lintner got the Big Red on the board early in the first quarter when he rolled from behind the cage, got topside and fired a rocket past Schefler.

Just under four minutes later, Lintner had his initial shot blocked away but picked up the loose and back-hand shoveled it into the goal. Tesoriero won the ensuing face off and just four seconds later, Lintner scored again to break the school record, previously held by Steve Mock (:05), for the fastest consecutive goals scored by the same player in school history.

T.J. Hauk and O'Donnell teamed up for a little two-man game to get Binghamton on the board at the 6:19 mark.

Cornell killed BU's first man-up attempt to stay perfect on the season in the penalty kill (0-for-6) and then Hogan scored with 49 seconds remaining in the quarter to go up, 4-1.

A man-up goal from Mitchell Rick made it a two-goal game with just under 12 minutes to go before the intermission, but Lintner sandwiched a pair of goals around a man-up tally from Hogan to make it a 7-2 contest. Both of Lintner's goals were where scored on the doorstep off passes from Paoletta.

A pair of goals by Donovan and Buczek 28 seconds apart extended Cornell's run to five straight before Alex Doerflein and O'Donnell registered the final two tallies of the half to make it a 9-4 contest at the break.

The Big Red opened the third quarter with 48 seconds remaining in the man-up and Lintner tallied his sixth goal of the game off a pass from Connor Entenmann. Three consecutive Binghamton goals, including a man-up tally, made it a 10-7 contest at the 4:31 mark of the third quarter but a wrap-around goal by Donovan ended the run.

Cornell tallied three goals in the fourth quarter, including the first collegiate goals of Andrew Keith and Paoletta, to roll to the 14-8 victory.

The Big Red is back in action this weekend as it travels to Michigan for the first-ever meeting in men's lacrosse between Cornell and the Wolverines on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m.
