ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team split a pair of Ivy League matches this weekend, sweeping Brown on Saturday, 9-0, before falling to Yale on Sunday, 6-3, in a hard-fought match at Belkin International Squash Courts.
 
Sunday's loss to fourth-ranked Yale was not only the first loss of the season for sixth-ranked Cornell (5-1, 2-1 Ivy League), it was also the first time this season the Big Red surrendered any points.
 
Seniors Danielle Letourneau (No. 1) and Rachel Au (No. 7), and freshman Emma Uible (No. 6) each won both of their matches on the weekend and remained undefeated on the season. All nine Big Red competitors won in the minimum three sets against 11th-ranked Brown (1-1, 0-1). Sophomore Rachel Scherman surrendered the fewest points in her 11-1, 11-8, 11-0 match against Emily Richmond at the No. 3 position.
 
Armed with five victories against teams immediately behind it in the College Squash Association's national rankings, the Big Red made its first attempt to move up Sunday when it took on the Bulldogs. Uible got Cornell on the board in the first rotation, never trailing in her match at No. 6. The Big Red came up short in two five-set matches over the first two rotations, which allowed Yale to clinch before the completion of the final three matches. Letourneau then swept her match at the No. 1 position, and Au rallied from an early deficit to win in four at No. 7.
 
Cornell takes a break from Ivy League play for a couple weeks, playing host to St. Lawrence, Drexel and Trinity in a three-match stretch Jan. 23-25 at Belkin International Squash Courts.
