Tommy Griffin scored in the 84
th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give Cornell men's soccer the victory over Ivy League foe Princeton on Saturday afternoon.
All of the game's scoring came in the second half, beginning with junior
Jack Ferguson's penalty kick goal in the 54
th minute when Princeton's Brendan McSherry was issued a yellow card. The goal was Ferguson's first of the year and the Big Red's second penalty kick tally of the season.
The Tigers (7-4-2, 1-3-1 Ivy) tied the game in the 69
th minute on Thomas Sanner's 11
th goal. Princeton kept the pressure on late in the second half, but another foul proved to be costly. A Cornell free kick from junior
Madison Heck was gathered by sophomore
Jonathan Cullom. Classmate Griffin then bodied in the loose ball for his first goal of the season.

Mitchell Meyer was crucial in keeping the Big Red in the game, making a season-high eight saves, including five in the second half, in Cornell's second Ivy League win.
The Big Red (4-10-1, 2-3 Ivy) will jump over Princeton in the Ivy League standings heading into the final two games of the season. Cornell stays on the road next weekend for a matchup at league-leading Dartmouth at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, before returning home for the final game of the season at Berman Field on Nov. 14 against Columbia.
