(PDF)HANOVER, N.H. --- Dartmouth took a 2-0 win over Cornell men's soccer Saturday afternoon to clinch the 2015 Ivy League title.
Sophomore
Tommy Griffin fired a free kick towards goal and then sent the cleared ball back into the arms of the Dartmouth keeper, Stefan Cleveland. The Big Green then went on the counterattack, getting the game's first goal when Alberto Gorini tucked in a ball that had come across the face of the goal from Justin Donawa.
Â
Griffin had another opportunity at a free kick from about 30 yards out and found the head of a Big Red player inside the six-yard box. Cleveland had to tip it just high, resulting in a corner for Cornell. Freshman
Ryan Watters also cracked a set piece opportunity in on goal that Cleveland had to jump up to grab.
Â
In the second half, Griffin battled for a ball and got it ahead to sophomore
Jonathan Cullom, whose look to goal went high. Cullom finished the game with a team-high three shots, helping the Big Red to a 14-11 advantage in shots on the night.
Â
The Big Green then took a 2-0 lead, when Eric Jayne put a shot just inside the crossbar.
Â
The decision gave Dartmouth a perfect 6-0 Ivy League record going into the final week of the season, while Cornell now sits at 2-4 in conference play and 4-11-1 overall. The Big Red plays its final game of the season at home at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 against Columbia.
