The University of Virginia Edges Cornell Men’s Polo 13-12

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red men's polo team fell to the University of Virginia Cavaliers 13-12 on Friday.

Cornell once again started Ignacio Masias, Ryan Saul, and Dan Shaw.  The teams traded goals throughout the first chukker to head into the second tied at three.

The second saw Cornell gain a 7-4 lead only to have the Cavaliers fight back to trail 7-6 by the half.

Cornell got out to a 10-6 lead in the third.  Two bounces of the ball saw the lead cut to 10-8 going into the fourth.

In the fourth Liam Palacios replaced Shaw.  Things looked good early on but then the Big Red's luck changed as potentially great plays took odd bounces and turned into "right place at the right time" plays for the Cavaliers.  The score was suddenly tied at 12.  A good play by the Cavaliers put them ahead with 25 seconds left in the game.  Palacios took the last throw-in and was headed for the tying goal when time ran out with only four feet left to go.  The 13-12 victory to went to UVA.  In total, Masias tallied 10 goals with Saul adding 2.

The Big Red are back at it Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 P.M versus the University of Connecticut at the Oxley Equestrian Center.
