CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — For the fourth straight year, the women's squash team has finished in sixth place at the Howe Cup, the College Squash Association's national championship. The Big Red dropped a 6-3 decision to Yale on Sunday in the fifth-place match.
There were just two three-set sweeps among the day's nine scoring matches.
Sophomore
Rachel Scherman got the Big Red on the board in the opening rotation with a four-set victory at the No. 3 position. Yale then took an early 2-1 lead by winning a five-set affair at No. 9, then swept the middle rotation to clinch the match — though two of those matches went to a fifth set.
Cornell then won two of the final three matches, including a four-set decision from senior
Danielle Letourneau at the No. 1 position. Freshman
Margaux Losty also won at No. 4, battling back to win in five sets.
While this was the final team event of the season, several of the Big Red's players are expected to compete at the CSA's Individual Championships from Feb. 27 to March 1 at Princeton, N.J.
