ITHACA, N.Y. -- For the second time in a week, the Cornell men's polo team topped rival Virginia after controlling the second half in a 23-15 victory over the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 10-3 on the season with the victory.
Alex Langlois, Ignacio Masias and Nick Stieg jumped out to a 4-1 lead only to have the Cavaliers fight back to take a 5-4 lead. The Big Red tied it up just before the end of the chukker at 5-5. The second proved to be just as much of a back-and-forth match with the Cavaliers edging to a 10-9 lead heading into the half. Hakan Karabey replaced Langlois in the second half and helped the home team take the chukker and lead 14-12 into the fourth. The last chukker saw Cornell extend its lead and bring home the win. Masias led the team with 14 goals while Stieg added six, Langlois had one and penalty goals accounted for the final two.
