Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Cornell softball team dropped its first two contests of 2015, losing a late lead in an 11-10 defeat at the hands of Army before falling to Canisius 12-3 in five innings in game two at the Grand Park Athletic Complex.
Freshman
Karlie Mellott was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in her collegiate debut as the Big Red pounded out 14 hits in the game one loss.
Emily Weinberg and
Sophie Giaquinto each homered in the loss, but Army was able to rally for seven runs in the final two innings to overcome a 10-4 deficit to win it on a two-out, walk-off single by Hailey Megge.
Junior
Meg Parker went the first four innings, surrendering two hits and no earned runs before exiting the game with a pair of strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Canisius scored six runs in the first two innings and put the game way with a five-run fourth. Parker had a 2-for-3 afternoon with a double and a pair of stolen bases at the plate, but after scoring two runs in the first to get back within a run, never threatened again.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday when it plays its second game of the weekend against Army at 11:30 a.m., then meets Bucknell at 1:30 p.m.
