PHILADELPHIA — The men's and women's squash teams suffered 8-1 losses to Penn on Friday in the squads' penultimate Ivy League matches of the season.
Freshman
Charlotte Knaggs accounted for the lone point for the sixth-ranked Cornell women's team (8-4, 3-3 Ivy League). She won in extra points in each of her victorious three sets in a four-set match at the No. 9 position against Grace Van Arkel. That left the Big Red trailing second-ranked Penn (12-1, 6-0) by a 2-1 margin after the first rotation, but the Quakers swept the second rotation to clinch the match.
The 11th-ranked Cornell men's team (5-8, 1-6 Ivy League) also entered the final rotation of its match with the victor already decided, though freshman
Jordan Brail swept his match at the No. 8 position against George Lemmon. Penn (8-5, 3-3) entered the weekend ranked ninth in the nation by College Squash Association.
Both Cornell teams return home for a Sunday doubleheader at Belkin International Squash Courts. At 1 p.m., the Big Red takes on Princeton, followed by a 4 p.m. match against Hobart for the men and William Smith for the women.
