ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman
Priyanka Shah won her match at No. 5 singles, but the women's tennis team fell, 4-1, against Columbia in the semifinals of the ECAC Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.
Shah won in straight sets against Alexandra Solovyev, helping sixth-seeded Cornell (1-4) close its deficit to 2-1 against second-seeded Columbia. But the Lions went on to win the next two singles matches to reach completion, and the match halted with the victor already decided.
The Lions, tabbed 39th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, started off the day by winning the doubles point.
Up next for the Big Red is Sunday's third-place match, where it will take on top-seeded Princeton at 9 a.m. Columbia and Dartmouth will then play in the championship match at noon.
