ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell continued to expand its reach throughout the soccer world last month when men's soccer alumnus Scott Palguta was named the head coach of NCAA Division III Colorado College. Palguta was an assistant coach of the Tigers for two seasons prior to the promotion.
As an assistant coach for the last two years, Colorado College witnessed great success as one of the best programs in NCAA Division III. The Tigers posted a 29-10-4 record over the two seasons; getting ranked as high as No. 14 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Division III poll. Colorado College posted a 15-4-2 record this past season; the best mark since 2004.
Palguta, a 2005 graduate of the School of Hotel Administration, had an excellent playing career on East Hill. He was a two-time All-Ivy selection, while making 63 starts during his career. He ranks in the Top-15 in program history with three game-winning goals.
Following Cornell, he was drafted by the Rochester Rhinos in the second round of the USL-Pro First Division College Draft. He had a strong three-year career for the Rhinos, earning USL-Pro Rookie of the Year honor in 2005 and an All-USL selection in 2008. He moved on to play four seasons with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer; winning the MLS Cup with the squad in 2010.
The head coaching appointment is the first of Palguta's career. He becomes the third head coach in the history of the Colorado College program.
