ITHACA, N.Y. –The Cornell men's polo team swept the weekend, knocking off regional rival Connecticut 29-10 and avenging an early season loss to Giant Valley with a 20-14 triumph this past weekend at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 12-3 with the victories.
Against UConn,
Kamran Pirasteh, Ignacio Masias,
Hakan Karabey and Nick Stieg all split time as the Big Red put in another strong performance to bring home the win. Cornell jumped to a 9-1 lead after one and never looked back. Pirasteh led all scorers with 14 goals, Masias had nine Karabey notched five and Stieg had one.
Behind the strong play of Masias, the Big Red built a three-goal lead after one. Giant Valley hung tough in the second and went into the half down 10-8. It was toward the end of the third that Cornell extended its lead to five with a four- goal run to head into the fourth ahead 16-11. From there, Cornell matched its opponent and won by the 20-14 final. Masias led with nine goals, Stieg and Langlois each had four with three pony goals.
