MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The women's tennis team rattled off four singles victories to rally for a 4-3 victory Saturday at West Virginia. Junior
Jane Stewart notched the clinching point for Cornell (3-5), winning her No. 6 singles match, 6-3, 6-3.
Cornell ended a nine-match winning streak for West Virginia (9-2) despite yielding the doubles point to start the day. The sophomore team of
Marika Cusick and
Alexandra D'Ascenzo won their No. 1 doubles match, 6-4.
Junior captain
Dena Tanenbaum tied the score at 1 with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 singles spot, and D'Ascenzo followed suit with a similar 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 to propel Cornell into the lead. Cusick's win 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 put the Big Red within a point of clinching the match. After West Virginia mustered its second point with a win at the No. 4 position,
Jane Stewart lifted Cornell to the victory. She has not lost in her last seven singles matches, with a 4-0 record over that stretch.
