ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's tennis team will kick off a six-match home stand at 10 a.m. Saturday when it hosts Marist in a non-league match at Reis Tennis Center.
Cornell (3-5) has won its last two matches, including last Saturday's 4-3 victory at West Virginia. The Big Red won four singles matches to rally from an early deficit, with junior
Jane Stewart clinching the match with her victory at the No. 6 position. Over her last seven matches, Stewart is 4-0 and was leading the other three contests when they were halted. Sophomore
Alexandra D'Ascenzo also picked him her team-leading fifth singles victory, breezing to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 2 spot. She also teamed up with classmate
Marika Cusick to win their third consecutive doubles match.
Marist was 6-10 in 2014 and has started its dual-match season with five consecutive losses. The first four were by 7-0 margins before the Red Foxes scratched out two points in Sunday's loss at Navy. Karly Pang (No. 1) and Katie Seitz (No. 4) had singles victories for Marist, which opens the weekend with a 7 p.m. Friday match at Binghamton.
This will be the second all-time meeting between the programs. Cornell won the first, 6-1, on Feb. 19, 2005.
