th minute Sunday morning at the Duquesne Invitational. Timmy Mueller scored two goals two minutes apart to beat the Big Red, 2-0, at Rooney Field.
In the team's first game against a nationally ranked opponent this season, Cornell held Oregon State to just one shot in the first half and 12 shots total, while the Big Red tallied 13. Juniors
Jack Ferguson and
Madison Heck led Cornell with four shots each.
Mueller scored his first goal in the 80
th minute off a cross from CJ Brill, who also assisted Mueller's second goal, a header off an Oregon State corner kick in the 82
nd minute.
The Big Red pushed to get on the board in the waning moments, with Heck and Ferguson both registering shots in the 89
th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper
Rhys Moller got his third straight start and had five saves.
The loss moves Cornell to 0-4, while the Beavers remain undefeated at 5-0.
Sophomore
Jonathan Cullom and junior
Chris St. Germain were named to the Dusquesne Invitational All-Tournament Team. Cullom scored for the BIg Red in their 2-1 overtime loss to Cleveland State and St. Germain picked up the first assist on the goal.
The Big Red has a quick turnaround, returning to action Tuesday night for the team's home opener, a 7 p.m. kickoff against Binghamton at Berman Field.
