ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red volleyball team dropped its final match of the Cornell Invitational, 3-0 to tournament champion Loyola University-Chicago, this evening at Newman Arena. The Ramblers won in straight sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.
Loyola-Chicago improved to 11-2 on the year after winning all three of its matches this weekend. The Ramblers were led against the Big Red by Maureen Carls with nine kills, while Sami Hansen hit an impressive .833 with five kills and no errors on six attempts. Setters Caroline Holt and Maddy Moser finished with 20 and 13 assists respectively, while libero Stephanie Kinane (11) and Morgan Reardon (10) tallied double-digit digs. For her efforts over the weekend, Reardon was named the Cornell Invitational MVP.
Cornell (4-6) was led by
Emily Wemhoff with nine kills and just two errors on 26 attempts for a team-best .269 hitting percentage. Setter
Alyssa Phelps was named to the All-Tournament team for Cornell. She finished the match with 15 assists, four digs and three block assists. Sophomore libero
Chelsea Sincox posted six digs.
The Big Red opens Ivy League play next weekend when it plays host to Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.
