NEW YORK — Freshman
David Volfson won his matches in both singles and doubles, but the 47th-ranked Cornell men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the National Tennis Center in Flushing.
Volfson and junior
Colin Sinclair teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles match, 6-3, but Michigan came out on top in the other two doubles matches by the same margin to secure the opening point.
Volfson's over Jathan Malik at No. 1 was his first in collegiate dual singles matches. Ranked the second-best newcomer in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association earlier this year, Volfson stormed back to win in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Cornell returns to action in the Ivy-Big Ten Challenge on Sunday morning with a match against Iowa in Princeton, N.J.
