Cassandra Poudrier won gold with the Canadian Women's National Development Team in the 2016 Nations Cup on Thursday afternoon in Füssen, Germany. Canada defeated Finland, 4-3, in overtime to earn Canada's 11
th Nations Cup gold medal.
Poudrier, who served as one of Canada's alternate captains for the tournament, assisted on Canada's first goal in a 4-2 win over Russia on Tuesday. The preliminary-round victory, paired with a 2-1 overtime win over Sweden on Monday, earned Canada a place in the gold medal match. Poudrier was also a member of the Canadian team that took home gold at last year's Nations Cup.
The tournament, previously called the Air Canada Cup, MLP Cup and Meco Cup, featured national teams from Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland, split into two groups of three. Each team competed against the two other teams in its group, and the highest seed from each group advanced to the gold medal game, while the second-highest seeds played for bronze.
