ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshmen
Madison Miles and
Colby Gallagher won their first collegiate matches, and the women's squash team started its season with an 8-1 victory over Williams on Friday at the Cornell Round Robin, held at Belkin International Squash Courts.
After sophomore
Margaux Losty wrapped up her match at No. 3, Miles rallied to win in four sets and give Cornell a 2-1 lead. The Big Red then swept the middle rotation to clinch the match.
Entering the weekend ranked eighth in the nation by the College Squash Association, the Big Red effectively defended its position against 12th-ranked Williams. The victory was the first for the Big Red under
David Palmer, who was making his debut as the James Broadhead '57 Head Coach of Squash.
Cornell concludes play at the event with a match against Western Ontario at 10 a.m. Sunday.
