ITHACA, N.Y. -- Princeton hit nine of its first 11 3-pointers in the game's first 15 minutes and led by as many as 25 points in the first half on its way to an 85-56 victory over Cornell on Friday evening at Newman Arena. The Tigers (15-5, 5-1 Ivy) kept pace a game behind Yale in the Ivy League standings, while the Big Red dropped its third straight to fall to 9-12 (2-5 Ivy).
Freshman
Matt Morgan scored 15 points, including several of the breathtaking variety, to move into third on the school's freshman scoring list (368), but was the lone double figure scorer for the Big Red. Senior captain
Robert Mischler scored nine points and
Robert Hatter notched seven points for the home team, which shot just 36 percent from the field and was outrebounded 38-26.
David Onuorah had six points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in the loss.
The Tigers blistered the nets in the first half, ending the 20 minute stanza shooting 58 percent from the field and 64 percent from the line to take a 52-29 edge in the locker room. Princeton cooled off some in the second half, but stil lended the night shooting 50 percent overall and 44 percent from the 3-point line. The balanced Tigers had four reach double figures in the scoring column, led by Henry Caruso and Amir Bell with 13 points apiece. Devin Cannady chipped in with 11 points and Myles Stephens tallied 10. Caruso added seven rebounds and Pete Miller had a game-high nine to go along with six points.
Princeton led by 10 at the first media timeout and 23 midway through the first half as it just couldn't miss, getting contributions from everyone on the floor. Cornell made several mini-runs in the second half, but couldn't cut the lead under 20 or grab momentum away from the Tigers.
NOTES TO KNOW•
Matt Morgan's 15 points give him 368 on the season, surpassing former Ivy League Rookie of the Year Adam Gore for third on the school's freshman scoring list.
• Morgan has led the team in scoring in all seven Ivy League contests.

David Onuorah's two blocked shots give him 34 on the season and 107 for his career. He is six shy of becoming the fifth player in school history to hit 40 blocks in a season twice in a career.

Robert Mischler's nine points tied a career high set against Division III Alfred State last year.
• With a 3-for-3 effort beyond the arc, Mischler is now 7-of-9 from deep this seaosn (78 percent) and 13-of-24 for his career (54 percent).
• Junior guard
Desmond Fleming hit 2-of-3 shots on his way to a six-point night, making him 12-of-16 from the floor so far this season (75 percent).
With his six rebounds, including four on the defensive end,
David Onuorah has now led the team in rebounding in four straight contests.
