Box Score LORETTO, Pa. -- Saint Francis (Pa.) rallied twice from multiple-run deficits and used a five-run sixth inning to get past Cornell 9-7 on Sunday afternoon at Red Flash Field to complete a three-game weekend sweep. Saint Francis (Pa.) improved to 12-12, whole Cornell fell to 0-8 on the year.
Cornell's
Emily Weinberg was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a pair of RBI, and
Megan Murray went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Leanne Iannucci rounded out the three players who recorded multi- hit days for the Big Red with a 2-for-3 day and
Meg Parker blasted a two-run homer, her third roundtripper of the season. Despite the big bats for the Big Red, a pair of late homers from the Red Flash proved to be the difference.
After Parker's two-run homer in the fifth put Cornell into the lead at 7-4, but a three-run shot by Alexis Bower knotted the score and a two-run homer by Kindra Witthus three batters later put the home team over the top to sweep the high-scoring series.
The Big Red used some two-out magic in the second to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
Megan Murray opened the frame with a two-out single, but after consecutive outs, Cornell strung together two singles, took advantage of two wild pitches and an error and doubled a 2-0 lead with an
Emily Weinberg two-bagger.
Like they had a day earlier, the Red Flash answered a big inning with one of their own, plating four runs to tie it, with the big blow coming after a three-run double by Hayley Norton. Parker's home run set the Big Red up late, but Saint Francis (Pa.) answered in a big way to complete the rally.
Cornell will open the George Mason Cherry Blossom Classic against a familiar foe - Saint Francis (Pa.) - when the five-game event begins on Friday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. in Fairfax, Va.
