WALTHAM, Mass. - Cornell senior Angelica Gangemi and junior Victoria Wines wrapped up the 2016 NCAA Fencing Championship with 13th place finishes in foil and epee, respectively. Senior Ediona Sera placed 19th overall in foil, while freshman Zoee D'Costa took 24th place in saber.

For Gangemi, the first Big Red fencer to participate in four NCAA Championships, the 13th place finish is the highest of her career, besting her 14th place finish as a freshman. She earned 11 victories, including upset wins over Princeton's Ashley Tsue (ninth), Notre Dame's Nicole McKee (10th), and Northwestern's Jennifer Yamin (12th), while posting a touch-differential of 11 (85-74).

In a tightly contested epee competition, Wines picked up 12 victories but slipped from 11th to 13th place based on her 2 touch-differential (97-89). In total, she defeated six fencers that finished ahead of her in the rankings, including final four participant Eugenia Falqui (Ohio State) and three others that finished in the top 10 - Notre Dame's Catherine Lee (fifth), Duke's Isabella Barna (sixth), and Harvard's Shawn Wallace (ninth).

Sera also had the best finish of her NCAA career, taking 19th place overall with six wins. Half of her victories came over fencers that finished ahead of her in the rankings, including a win over Penn's Simone Unwalla (15th).

In her first NCAA Championship, D'Costa finished in 24th place with seven victories. She posted three top 10 wins, defeating Notre Dame's Francesca Russo (sixth), Margaret McDonald (eighth) and Penns Arabella Uhry (10th).

At the end of the women's competition, Cornell sits in 10th place overall as a team.
