#55 Men's Tennis Closes Home Slate With 4-1 Win Over Penn

Senior Day presentation

ITHACA, N.Y. — Juniors Bernardo Casares Rosa and Colin Sinclair each won in both singles and doubles, and the men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-1 victory over Penn on Friday afternoon on the sunny outdoor courts at Reis Tennis Center.

Casares Rosa teamed with classmate Chris Vrabel to win the #2 doubles match to kick off play, then Sinclair and freshman David Volfson closed out the #1 match by an identical 6-2 score to give Cornell an early 1-0 lead. Sinclair and Volfson are ranked 66th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and they beat a fellow nationally ranked pairing of Penn's #79 Austin Kaplan and Nicholai Westergaard.

Cornell (11-10, 4-2 Ivy League), which entered the weekend ranked 55th, continued to roll into singles. Casares Rosa (#5) and Sinclair (#2) closed out their respective opponents in straight sets to push Cornell's lead to 3-0. Penn countered with a win at #4 to get on the board and was ahead in two of the other remaining singles matches, but the Big Red clinched with a three-set victory from Dylan Brown at #6.

The victory guarantees Cornell a winning record in Ivy League for a second straight year under Silviu Tanasoiu, the Director of Intercollegiate Tennis and Savitt-Weiss Head Coach of Men's Tennis. With Columbia's home victory against Princeton on Friday, the Big Red has been eliminated from Ivy League contention. But Cornell continues to hold onto hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, provided it can defeat #46 Princeton on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey.

A special presentation was held between Friday's singles and doubles matches to honor the Big Red's lone senior this season, Stefan Vinti.
