Softball Suffers Sweep At Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Cornell rallied late in game two of a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Binghamton, but the Bearcats were able to pull off a walk-off win to complete a sweep, taking games 10-0 in five innings and 6-5. Binghamton improved to 23-12, while the Big Red slipped to 8-24.

Game One
Little went right for the Big Red in game one, as Binghamton scored three runs in both the first and third innings and four more in the fourth for the shutout win in game one. Cornell scratched out just three hits in the contest, but despite that had its chances early. The Big Red left two runners on base in the first and the bases loaded in the second. Leanne Iannucci, Madeline Avery and Taylor Goodin each had a hit in the loss, while Maddie Orcutt was tagged with seven earned runs in her four innings of work.

Cara Martin allowed three hits and no runs over four innings to improve to 6-3 on the year, while Sydney Harbaugh hit a home run and scored three times and Gabby Brachhi, Taylor Chaffee and Griffin McIver each had a pair of hits in the win.

Game Two
Jessica Bigbie and Rebecca Kubena each had three of Cornell's 11 hits and the Big Red scored three in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5, but the Bearcats answered with a run in the seventh to walk off after a game-winning RBI single by Griffin McIver, who also hit a home run earlier in the contest.

Binghamton never trailed, although the Big Red tied the game at 1-1, 2-2 and 5-5 before Binghamton took the victory.

Meg Parker, who took the hard-luck loss in the circle, helped spur the rally with an RBI single to center one pitch after an Emily Weinberg sacrifice fly got the Big Red back in the game. Rebecca Kubena's infield single tied the score, but she was thrown out tring to stretch the base hit to second to end the rally.

That was enough of a window for the Bearcats, who used a double, a wild pitch, a walk and a single to capture the victory.

The Big Red had four errors in the loss, putting Parker in a hole most of the day. She scattered seven hits but also walked six in six innings to drop to 5-10 on the year.
