Durant Named Coach Of The Year, Team Earns 17 All-Ivy Nods

PRINCETON, N.J. — Adrian Durant, the George Heekin '29 Head Coach of Men's Track and Field and Cross Country, was named the Ivy League Outdoor Track And Field Coach of the Year. Durant led Cornell to an Outdoor Ivy League Heptagonals championship this weekend, with the Big Red earning a Heps-record 211 points.

Cornell has had a strong season under Durant, putting up competitive performances at some of the Northeast's toughest meets. The team has maintained a No. 1 ranking in the Northeast region for the entire season, culminating in the Big Red's return to the top of the Heps podium.

In addition to Durant's honor, Cornell was recognized with 17 All-Ivy accolades, including 11 first-team nods.  Junior Rudy Winkler, who was the meet's Field MVP after posting the NCAA's top throw in the hammer (246 feet, 5 inches), earned a first-team nod, and senior Ben Rainero, the meet's track MVP, snagged a pair of first-team honors after winning both the 5K (14:17.26) and the 10K (29:41.73). Junior Austin Jamerson was named to the first team for his win in the decathlon with 7,161 points. In the field, Myles Lazarou earned first-team honors for winning the high jump, while Bobby Plummer and Rob Robbins joined him with victories in the triple jump and javelin, respectively. On the track, the 4x400 relay team of Michael Smith, Wynn Curtis, Larry Gibson and Tobe Attah were named to the first team, finishing in 3:12.27. Gibson also earned an individual first-team nod in the 200 meters.

Freshman Zach Menchaca was named to the first team in the 100, finishing in 10.41, the second-best time in program history, and to the second team in the 200 at 20.99. Senior Max Hairston also made both teams, taking a spot on the first-team in the 110 hurdles with a 13.90 finish while joining the second team with his finish in 52.31 in the 400 hurdles.

Attah was also named to the second team for his 47.08 runner-up finish in the 400. Alex Rodriguez was also a second-team honoree for his leap of 23-10 in the long jump, and Stephen Afadapa made the second team for his second-place finish in the high jump. The 4x100 relay team of Ryan Hynes, Barilin Paulino, Alex Beck and Menchaca was also named to the second team.
