Volleyball Battles Back To Beat Buffalo, 3-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Big Red volleyball team dropped the first set to Buffalo, but battled back to beat the Bulls, 3-1, this morning at the Bucknell Invitaitonal. The Big Red wraps up the tournament this afternoon when it faces Oakland at 4 p.m.

With the win, Cornell improves to 5-3 on the year, amassing the most non-conference wins in a season since 2006 (7). With two non-conference games to play, the Big Red has also guaranteed its first .500 non-conference record since that 2006 squad went 7-7.

Carla Sganderlla led the Big Red with 16 kills, while Kit McCarty and Jenna Phelps added 15 and 10, respectively. Cornell hit .260 as a team, thanks in large part to McCarty (.370) and Phelps (.353).

The setting duo of senior Alyssa Phelps and sophomore Gabby Goodall finished with 27 and 22 assists, respectively, and freshman libero Lily Barber had a team-high 13 assists. Sganderlla also chipped in 11 digs.

Buffalo (0-12) was led by Valisha Watkins with 11 kills, while Megan Wernette added nine. The Bulls hit just .192 as a team.
