LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Big Red volleyball team dropped the first set to Buffalo, but battled back to beat the Bulls, 3-1, this morning at the Bucknell Invitaitonal. The Big Red wraps up the tournament this afternoon when it faces Oakland at 4 p.m.
With the win, Cornell improves to 5-3 on the year, amassing the most non-conference wins in a season since 2006 (7). With two non-conference games to play, the Big Red has also guaranteed its first .500 non-conference record since that 2006 squad went 7-7. Â
Carla Sganderlla led the Big Red with 16 kills, while
Kit McCarty and
Jenna Phelps added 15 and 10, respectively. Cornell hit .260 as a team, thanks in large part to McCarty (.370) and Phelps (.353).Â

Gabby Goodall finished with 27 and 22 assists, respectively, and freshman libero
Lily Barber had a team-high 13 assists. Sganderlla also chipped in 11 digs.Â
Buffalo (0-12) was led by Valisha Watkins with 11 kills, while Megan Wernette added nine. The Bulls hit just .192 as a team.
