THE UMKC KANGAROO KLASSIC: Cornell heads to the Midwest this weekend as it travels to the UMKC Kangaroo Klassic. The Big Red will face the host school on Friday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m. EST, before taking on Bradley at 6:30 p.m. EST. The following day, Cornell will face Nebraska-Omaha at noon EST.
THE SERIES VS. UMKC: The Big Red is 1-0 all-time vs. UMKC, winning the lone meeting, 3-1, during the 1995 season.

VS. THE WAC: Cornell is 1-1 all-time vs. the current members of the WAC, with a victory over UMKC in 1995 and a loss to New Mexico State during the 1996 season. The Big Red has never faced CSU Bakersfield, Chicago State, Grand Canyon, Seattle University, UT Rio Grande Valley or Utah Valley in volleyball.

VS. THE MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERNCE: Cornell is 0-5 all-time vs. the current members of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Big Red is 0-3 all-time vs. Loyola-Chicago and also has a losing record vs. Indiana State (0-1) and UNI (0-1). Cornell has never faced Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, or Wichita State in volleyball … Coach Vande Berg is 0-1 against the MVC after losing to Loyola-Chicago last season.

Trudy Vande Berg is in her second season as The Wendy Schaenen '79 Head Coach Of Volleyball at Cornell (8-19, .296) ... Vande Berg became the 11th head coach in Cornell volleyball history in March 2015 after spending three seasons as the Big Red's top assistant coach ... Prior to her time at Cornell, Vande Berg spent time as an assistant coach at North Florida, Duke, and Iowa State and as a volunteer assistant at Wisconsin. She also served as head coach of the Team Iowa Ice professional club in the Premier Volleyball League, where she guided the team to the championship in her second year at the helm.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: The Big Red added six freshmen – as
Samanta Arenas, Lily Barber, Sophia Beaudoin, Jenna Phelps, Katie Randolph and Jada Stackhouse – to the roster for the 2016 season
. The six student-athletes hail from six different states and the group consists of two middle blockers, two outside hitters, one setter, and one defensive specialist.

Kit McCarty and Emily Wemnoff were named to the Cornell Invitational All-Tournament.

 SEASON OPENERS: With its win over Colgate on Sept. 3, Cornell improved to 29-14-1 all-time in season openers. Since 1995, the Big Red is an impressive 16-5 in the first match of the season ... Coach Vande Berg is a perfect 2-0 in season openers.

SETTING UP: Senior
Alyssa Phelps ranks fifth overall in Cornell history with 2,344 career assists. She needs 19 more to surpass Amy Gordon '07 in forth place.

BIG BLOCKER: Senior
Macey Wilson ranks 15th in Cornell history for career solo blocks (39), needing just eight more to move past Traci Mizoguchi '96 in 14th place. She is also sixth in block assists (243) and ninth in total blocks (282), needing 19 and 16, respectively, to move up a notch.

UP NEXT: The Big Red wraps up the tournament season with a trip to the Bison Classic where it will take on Bucknell in the first round of action on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The Classic concludes the next day with the Big Red taking on Buffalo at 10 a.m. and Oakland at 4 p.m. Cornell has a dominating all-time record vs. both Bucknell (13-2) and Buffalo (14-6), but lost the lone meeting with Oakland, 3-0, during the 2010 season.Â
