NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The men's soccer team dropped its first Ivy League contest on Saturday night as a first period goal from Yale (4-6-1, 1-1-1 Ivy) was enough to lead the Bulldogs to triumph, 1-0, at Reese Stadium.
Yale's Cameron Riach earned the game-winner in the 37th minute after launching a bullet from just the right of the goal area that found its way into the upper left corner of the net.
The Bulldogs' offense suffocated Cornell (6-4-2, 1-1-1), limiting the team to just two shots in the first half while Yale shot off six. However, the Big Red was much more productive in the second half, outshooting the opposition 5-3.
Tyler Bagley and
Charles Touche led the team offensively with two shots each while
Allen Michael Capo recorded the squad's only shot on goal.
Cornell held the slight advantage in corner kicks, 5-4, and goalkeeper
Mitchell Meyer came through with three saves on the evening. Tom Wallenstein collected one save for the Bulldogs.
The team gets back into action as they travel to Hartwick for a 7 p.m. matchup on Tuesday.
