WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The men's squash team opened the season with a 7-2 victory over Williams on Friday evening at the Williams Round Robin.
Both of the host Ephs' victories came in the opening rotation, with
Ben Francis' win at No. 6 getting the Big Red on the board. Jared Scherl won a hard-fought five-set match at No. 8 to help Cornell sweep the middle rotation and take a 4-2 lead. The Big Red then rolled from there, capped by a come-from-behind victory in five sets from
Alex Jung at No. 7. Cornell got top performances from its tri-captains,
Perry Hanson,
Andy Muran and
Jordan Brail.
Cornell, which entered the weekend ranked 12th in the country by the College Squash Association, has now won nine consecutive matches against Williams, which is ranked 20th. It was the season-opener for both squads.
