#12 Men's Squash Splits On Final Day of Williams Round Robin

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The men's squash team wrapped up play at this weekend's Williams Round Robin with a Saturday split, first defeating Dickinson, 7-2, before suffering a 6-3 loss to Western Ontario.

Cornell (2-1), which entered the weekend ranked 12th in the country by the College Squash Association, started the day with a victory over an improving Dickinson squad that recently had close matches against 2017 Hoehn Cup qualifiers George Washington and Franklin & Marshall. The Big Red dominated from the lower portion of the order, with three-set sweeps from the 6, 7, 8 and 9 positions. Freshman Illia Presman won in four from No. 5, giving Cornell a 4-2 lead entering the final rotation. Junior co-captain Andy Muran capped it off with a quality three-set victory over the Red Devils' highly-ranked No. 1.

Saturday concluded with a setback against a 13th-ranked Mustangs squad featuring a pair of five-set matches. Junior Ben Francis won in three at No. 6 to get Cornell on the board, then Presman concluded a strong weekend by rallying from down 2-1 for a five-set victory at No. 5 to keep the Big Red alive. Western Ontario, which had lost its last eight matches against Cornell, then clinched the vicotry with sweeps at Nos. 4 and 7.

The Big Red will conclude the opening-semester portion of its schedule on Saturday, Dec. 2, when it takes on Columbia in its Ivy League opener at 10 a.m., followed by a 6 p.m. tilt against upstart Virginia.
