Milliman Named Assistant Coach For U.S. National Indoor Team

SPARKS, Md. – US Lacrosse has announced that Peter Milliman, the Mario St. George Boiardi '04 Associate Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse, has been named an assistant coach for the 2019 U.S. men's national indoor team. He will be joined on the staff by Chris Schiller, who was also an assistant for the 2015 U.S. indoor team.

The team will be led by Regy Thorpe (Syracuse University), who in February was named head coach of Team USA, and will guide the team in pursuit of a gold medal at the 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Lacrosse Championship (WILC), Sept. 19-28, 2019, in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.

Milliman is in his fourth season on the Big Red staff, and his first as the team's offensive coordinator. On the world stage, he led the Russian national team to its first appearance in national history at the 2014 FIL World Championship in Denver. He has MLL playing experience as an attackman/midfielder with the Rochester Rattlers from 2005-2008, helping the team win its first MLL championship in 2008.

"Peter Milliman brings a wealth of coaching experience in the lacrosse world and will incorporate offensive systems that will help the top American field players seamlessly transfer their field talents to the box arena," said Thorpe. "This is an area where Peter is really going to excel for us and we are super excited to have him on board. His out-of-the-box thinking will certainly help us with our long-term vision of being able to put up goals against some of the elite defenses in the world."

The Team USA staff will assist Thorpe in the player selection process leading up to the final 23-man roster for the 2019 WILC event.

In the most recent FIL championship, held in September 2015 in Onondaga Nation in Syracuse, N.Y., the United States won bronze with a 15-4 win over Israel. Team USA has earned bronze in each of the four WILC events (2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015). The 2015 championship saw Canada win its fourth gold medal over the Iroquois.
