NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second consecutive game, Cornell freshman Jeff Teat had a hand in more than half the Big Red's goals, but it wasn't enough as Yale jumped out to a 4-1 first quarter lead and rolled to a 17-8 victory this afternoon at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Conn.
Teat finished the game with five points on three assists and two goals while
Jordan Dowiak chipped in two goals and
Clarke Petterson and
Jake McCulloch each finished with one goal and one assist.
In goal,
Christian Knight tallied with 13 saves, five of which came from point-blank range, and the Bulldogs' final two goals of the contest came on an empty net. Knight, who ranks ninth in the nation in saves per game, has now made double-digit saves in six consecutive games.
Yale (3-3, 1-0 Ivy) was led by Ben Reeves's six points on four goals and two assists. He was one of five Bulldogs to finish with at least two goals.
The home team finished with more shots (38-34) and held a significant advantage in ground balls (36-22) thanks in large part to Yale winning 21-of-31 face-offs. Both teams had 15 turnovers, although Cornell was 14-of-16 on clears, while holding the Bulldogs to an 18-of-24 performance.
The Big Red went 1-of-3 on extra-man chances while holding Yale to an 0-of-2 performance.
Cornell (0-5, 0-1) opens up a three-game home-stand when it welcomes instate rival Colgate to Schoellkopf Field on Tuesday, March 21 at 5 p.m.
