Six Big Red Skaters Named To Canada's Centralization Roster

CALGARY, Alberta – Cornell will be well represented on the Canadian National Women's Hockey centralized team as six Big Red skaters past and present were named to Hockey Canada's centralization roster on Thursday afternoon.

The 28-player centralization roster will train in Calgary throughout the 2017-18 season in preparation for the 2018 Olympic Winter games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Sophomore co-captain Micah Hart, Lauriane Rougeau '13 and Laura Fortino '13 are among the nine defensemen named to the roster while Rebecca Johnston '12, Brianne Jenner '15 and Jill Sauliner '15 earned a spot among the 16 forwards.

The squad will begin its preparation with fitness testing in late May before coming together in Calgary in August on a full-time basis with Hockey Canada. Canada's final 23-player roster for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games is tentatively scheduled to be determined in late December.

The full centralization roster can be found here.

Fortino, Rougeau, Jenner and Johnston were previously centralized in 2013 and made the 2014 Olympic team in Sochi, winning a gold medal. Johnston was also a member of the 2010 Olympic team in Vancouver, winning a gold medal in her home country. Fortino, Rougeau, Jenner and Johnston were all members of the silver medal-winning squad at the 2017 IIHF World Championships in March. Saulnier joined those four on the silver medal-winning squad at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championships.

Hart made her Canada National Women's team debut in the December Series against the United States, with Fortino, Rougeau, Jenner, Johnston and Saulnier also appearing on that roster.
