THE COLGATE INVITATIONAL: Cornell wraps up the tournament season this weekend when it heads to Hamilton, N.Y. for the Colgate Invitational. The Big Red will take on LaSalle on Friday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m., before coming back the next day to play Stony Brook (2 p.m.) and the host Raiders (6 p.m.).

THE SERIES VS. LA SALLE: Cornell has faced La Salle just three times and owns a perfect 3-0 record against the Explorers, earning the wins in 2001, 2003, and 2004.

VS. THE ATLANTIC 10: Cornell is 12-9 all-time against the current members of the Atlantic 10. The Big Red is a perfect 3-0 against both Duquesne and La Salle. Cornell also has a winning record against Davidson (1-0) and Fordham (2-1), but a losing mark vs. Dayton (0-1), George Mason (2-3) and George Washington (0-3). The series VCU (1-1) is tied and the Big Red has never faced Rhode Island, or Saint Louis in volleyball … Coach Vande Berg is 0-1 against the Atlantic 10.

THE SERIES VS. STONY BROOK: Cornell holds a 3-1 lead in the series with Stony Brook after falling in the last meeting, 3-0, during the 2012 campaign.

VS. THE AMERICA EAST: Cornell is 43-11-2 all-time vs. the current members of the America East, thanks mostly to a 24-9-2 record vs. in-state rival Binghamton. The Big Red also has a winning record vs. Albany (8-0), Hartford (6-1), New Hampshire (2-0) and Stony Brook (3-1), but has never faced UMBC or UMass-Lowell … Coach Vande Berg is 3-0 against the America East.

THE SERIES VS. COLGATE: The Big Red has a history of success against the Raiders, holding a 55-29-1 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1972, the very first season of varsity volleyball in Cornell history. The Raiders have had the upper hand recently, winning seven of the last nine meetings, but the Big Red picked up the 3-1 victory last season at the Cornell Invitational.

VS. THE PATRIOT LEAGUE: The Big Red is 90-42-1 against the current members of the Patriot League, thanks mostly to a 55-29-1 record over Colgate. Cornell also has a winning record against Army (6-2), Bucknell (14-2), Holy Cross (4-0), Lafayette (4-1) and Lehigh (5-2). The Big Red's series with Navy is tied at 2-2, while American is the only team in the Patriot League with a winning record against Cornell (4-0) … The Big Red has never played the two newest members of the league – Boston University or Loyola ... Coach Vande Berg is 2-1 against the Patriot League.

THE HEAD COACH:
Trudy Vande Berg is in her third season as The Wendy Schaenen '79 Head Coach Of Volleyball at Cornell (21-33, .389) ... Vande Berg became the 11th head coach in Cornell volleyball history in March 2015 after spending three seasons as the Big Red's top assistant coach ... Prior to her time at Cornell, Vande Berg spent time as an assistant coach at North Florida, Duke, and Iowa State and as a volunteer assistant at Wisconsin. She also served as head coach of the Team Iowa Ice professional club in the Premier Volleyball League, where she guided the team to the championship in her second year at the helm.

BIG RED INVITATIONAL: Cornell came out of the Big Red Invitational with two wins for the first time since 2007, and just missed out on earning its first tournament title since 2005, as St. John's took the crown by tiebreaker (set winning percentage).Â

NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS: The Big Red enters its final tournament weekend of the season with a 3-3 record. If Cornell can earn two wins this weekend at the Colgate Invitational, it will post a winning non-conference record for the second consecutive season, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since the 2004 and 2005 squad went 7-5 and 7-4, respectively.

RECAPPING 2016: Coming off its best performance since 2008, Cornell finished the 2016 season with a 12-12 record overall, posting six more victories than it did the year prior, the best single-season turnaround since the 2003 team went 21-4 following a 14-12 performance in 2002. With its record of 6-8 in the Ivy League, the Big Red finished fifth in the conference standings for its highest finish since the 2008 team placed third.

UP NEXT: Ivy League play begins on Saturday, Sept. 23 when the Big Red hosts Columbia in a contest at Newman Arena at 2 p.m. Cornell split the series with the Lions a year ago to improve its commanding lead in the all-time series to 51-13.
