NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Columbia tied a program record by hitting 16 3-pointers and forced 20 Cornell turnovers in collecting an 88-62 win on Saturday evening at Levien Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 4-12 (1-2 Ivy), while the Big Red slipped to 6-10 (0-3 Ivy).
The Lions led wire-to-wire with five double figure scorers and seven players with at least one made 3-point field goal. Lukas Meisner led the way with 19 points, while both Quintin Adlesh and Nate Hickman added 14. Both Meisner and Adlesh hit 4-of-5 3-pointers. Rounding out the fivesome in double figures was Gabe Stefanini with 11 and Kyle Castlin with 10 off the bench.
Matt Morgan, the Ivy League's leading scorer, posted his 36th career 20-point game, matching Ryan Wittman '10 for the school record. He made 5-of-9 shots from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free throw line with a pair of treys for 20 points and added four assists, three rebounds and two steals. He was the lone double figure scorer for the Big Red. Steven Julian added nine points and four rebounds,
Stone Gettings had eight points and Jimmy Boeheim scored six to go along with five boards.
Joel Davis had a team- and career-high eight rebounds and Josh Warren registered four points, four rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.
Cornell turnovers and Columbia shooting was the story of the first half. The Big Red handed the ball over 12 times and the Lions led by as many as 15 before entering the break with a 43-29 advantage. The home team drilled 7-of-13 3-pointers (54 percent) with six different players hitting at least one. Morgan had more than half of the Big Red's first half points, connecting on 5-of-7 shots for 16 points in his 17 minutes of action, but no one else had more than five. Six different Columbia players had at least five points by the break.
It didn't get any better in the second half, as the Lions hit 9-of-15 from beyond the arc and never saw the lead dip below 13 as Columbia cruised to its first Ivy League victory of the year.
