Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs Brown 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 25 Cornell men's soccer team used two goals in the matter of three minutes 49 seconds to power past Brown on the road 2-1. The win put the Big Red at 10-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in Ivy League play, while the Bears fell to 7-6 overall and to 1-3 in conference play.

"Another incredibly gutsy performance on the road," said head coach John Smith. "To go down within the first 20 seconds of the second half would test any team's mettle. Our guys responded as they have done all season. Both our goals were very well taken and we did a good job of limiting their looks on our goal throughout the remainder of the half."

After a scoreless first half, Brown got on the board quickly in the second half after the Big Red surrendered an own goal 20 seconds into the second frame.

Just under two and a half minutes later, the Big Red scored the equalizer off the foot of John Scearce with the assist credited to Nick Allen. Allen received a pass from Charles Touche, who led Allen on the right side of the field. Allen brought the ball to the end line, where he sent in the centering try. The ball worked its way past Touche, who attempt a swing at it, but Scearce was positioned right behind him and put home the straightaway shot.

Touche would get on the board moments later though as he added his fourth game-winner of the season to put the score at 2-1. Touche appeared to be setting up Vardhin Manoj for an attempt, but before Manoj was stopped in his tracks by a Brown defender he sent a quick pass back to Touche. The Albuquerque, New Mexico, to a strong swipe at the ball and sent it into the back of the net.

Ryan Shellow made four saves on the afternoon. Though one of his biggest contributions did not appear on the stat sheet. With time winding down in regulation, the junior goalkeeper made an instinctive play coming out of net and putting two fists on a dangerous centering try.

The Big Red returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Albany at 7 p.m., which marks the first of a three-game home stretch.
