Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Albany Scores OT Goal To Top Men's Soccer, 1-0

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Albany capitalized on its second half pressure with Carlos Clark scoring the game-winner as the Great Danes topped No. 25 Cornell on Tuesday evening at Berman Field in men's soccer action. The loss dropped the Big Red to 10-4 on the season, while Albany improved to 6-9.

Ryan Shellow made eight saves on a wet, cold evening on the home pitch, but Clark was able to bury a shot in the 97th minute off a crafty feed from Nico Solabarrieta to end the evening. Albany held a 14-12 advantage in shots, including 10-5 in the second half and overtime, though the Big Red had a number of dangerous chances. Included was a first half penalty kick that was saved by Great Dane goalkeeper Danny Vitiello diving to his right to turn away John Scearcce, who was fouled in the box.

Cornell put four shots on goal against Vitiello - two each by Scearcce and George Pedlow - but there were several other chances that went just wide. The Great Danes had dangerous opportunities throughout the second half and pressed for eight corner kick opportunities to four for the Big Red.

Shellow made a pair of saves in overtime to keep Cornell alive and one in the final three minutes of regulation that sent the game into an extra session. Vitiello made a save on a strong effort by Pedlow with 10 minutes remaining that was the Big Red's best, last chance.

The Big Red returns to Ivy League play to close out the season, with three Ivy matches over the next 18 days that will decide the conference's automatic NCAA bid. At 3-1, Cornell sits a half-game behind first-place Princeton (3-0-1), who visits Berman Field on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.
