ITHACA, N.Y. -- The No. 25 Cornell men's soccer team fell at home to Princeton 2-0 Saturday evening at Berman Field. With the loss the Big Red falls to 10-5 on the season and to 3-2 in Ivy play, while the Tigers advanced to 9-4-2 and 4-0-1 in conference play.
Ryan Shellow made 10 saves throughout the course of the game, but Princeton's offensive attack was able to slip two shots past him.
Offensively, the Big Red had its best offensive chance of the night in the waning seconds of the first half after the Tigers committed a foul in the box in with eight seconds remaining in the opening frame.
George Pedlow attempted the penalty kick and Princeton goalkeeper Jacob Schachner made the initial diving stop. Pedlow followed up on the rebound, but Schachner made the second stop from his back to preserve the Tigers lead. Overall the Big Red fired seven shots, while Princeton had 17.
The Tigers first goal came from Sean McSherry in the 39th minute off a corner kick. The ball pinballed around after the intial service in from Cole Morokhovich and McSherry put it home. The second tally came off the foot of Gaby Paniagua in the 78th minute.
Cornell returns to action at 5 p.m. next Saturday when it takes on Dartmouth at Berman Field in its final home game of the season.
