Women's Soccer Falls to Colgate, 2-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Despite having its highest shot total in more than a month and getting six saves from goalkeeper Miranda Iannone making her first collegiate start, the women's soccer team was dealt a 2-0 loss by Colgate on Tuesday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

Colgate (8-2-3), which is atop the tables with an undefeated record in five Patriot League games, struck just over 11 minutes into the contest. An initial shot attempt by Ellis Miller was blocked, but Mara Cosentino collected the rebound and sent a shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net. Cosentino tacked on the second goal in the 35th minute.

Cornell (1-9-1) did not go quietly, accruing 10 shots -- its highest total since a season-high 18 on Sept. 5 against Le Moyne. Evanthia Spyredes had the only three on target, forcing saves from Colgate goalkeeper Sophia Boggs.

After making a three-minute cameo in Saturday's game at Harvard in her collegiate debut, Iannone's first start featured a highlight-reel save in the 73rd minute. The Raiders' Adrienne Vaughn had a straight-away chance from 18 yards, but Iannone jumped to her right and punched the ball over the frame with her right fist.

Cornell plays three of its final four games at home, all within Ivy League play. That stretch starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, when the Big Red hosts Yale at Berman Field in Ithaca.
