Delaware Defense Hands Big Red Second Straight Loss

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Jimmy Boeheim (career-high 23) and Matt Morgan (21) combined for 44 points, but Delaware limited Cornell to 39 percent shooting to capture a 73-56 win over the Big Red on a snowy Thursday night outside of Newman Arena. The Big Red dropped to 2-2, while the Blue Hens improved to 3-1 on the year.

Morgan was his usual productive self, hitting on 9-of-13 shots from the floor and adding five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. Boeheim surpassed his career high of 20 points, set in the season-opening win at Binghamton, with 23 points. He connected on three 3-pointers and chipped in four rebounds off the bench. The rest of the roster scored just 12 points, missed all 12 3-point attempts and was 6-of-31 from the floor.

Eric Carter had 19 points and 14 rebounds, Kevin Anderson scored 22 to go along with five rebounds and five assists and Ithiel Horton scored 11. The Blue Hens held a decisive 37-25 edge on the glass and shot 60 percent after halftime.

The visitors led 34-23 at the half, closing with a 9-2 run over the final two minutes. The Big Red never got closer than that in the second half, trailing by as many as 27.
