Women's Hockey Ties Robert Morris, 3-3

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Cornell women's hockey team played Robert Morris to a 3-3 tie Saturday afternoon at Colonials Arena. With the result, Cornell is now 6-1-4 on the season, while the Colonials are 6-7-4.

All three of the Big Red's goals came in the span of 2:19 in the second period. Kristin O'Neill was responsible for the first two while Willow Slobodzian netted the third.

O'Neill leads the team with eight goals on the season, which she has accomplished in just eight games played. Her average of 1.00 goal per game is the second highest in Division I collegiate women's hockey, trialing just 2018 Patty Kazmaier Award Finalist Loren Gabel from Clarkson, who is averaging 1.08.

Slobodzian, who entered Friday's matchup with three career goals, had a total of three goals this weekend. The sophomore defenseman from Clavet, Saskatchewan, had two a career-high two goals in Friday's 5-2 victory and added another goal Saturday.

The game started out slow with Cornell only having fired eight shots in the first 30 minutes of the contest and Robert Morris being held to seven. Just over the midway point of the second, things shifted.

O'Neill netted the first of her two goals with 7:09 left in the second quarter. Jaime Bourbonnais skated with the puck up the right side and crossed the goalline. Meanwhile, O'Neill halted right in the slot and awaited the pass. Bourbonnais sent the puck to O'Neill, who collected and sent a snapshot to the left of Robert Morris goaltender Lauren Bailey and into the back of the net.

The Colonials were quick to respond with a goal from Amber Rennie 39 seconds later that evened the score at one apiece.

O'Neill needed just 59 seconds to answer back to Rennie's goal with her second of the day. This time it was Grace Graham with the helper. Graham is tied with Maddie Mills for the team-lead with seven assists.

With 4:55 remaining, Slobodzian added the Big Red's final goal of the afternoon. Pippy Gerace brought the puck into the offensive zone before shoveling it back to Lenka Serdar. Serdar found Slobodzian crashing the left side of the net, who managed to tap the puck into the back of the net.

Cornell took a 3-1 lead into the third quarter, but the Colonials struck back with two power play goals from Emily Curlett. The first goal came with 9:33 left in regulation after the Colonials gambled by pulling their goaltender for the extra skater making it a 6-on-4 chance. The next came with 4:04 remaining on 4-on-3 power play.

This game marks the conclusion of the Big Red's eight-game road stretch, which it posted a record of 3-1-4 during.

The Big Red returns home with a pair of nationally ranked ECAC Hockey opponents next weekend. At 6 p.m. in Friday, Cornell hosts No. 8/8 St. Lawrence, which is followed by a 3 p.m. bout with two-time defending champion No. 3/3 Clarkson on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
