Dartmouth Rallies To Top Women's Soccer, 2-1, In Extra Time

ITHACA, N.Y. — Senior co-captain Jessica Ritchie scored her first goal of the season on Senior Day and the women's soccer team led Dartmouth for more than 60 minutes on Saturday only to see the visitors storm back and win, 2-1, in extra time.

Dartmouth (10-5-2, 4-2-1 Ivy League) equalized with 1 minute, 57 seconds left in the second half, then struck again with less than 6 minutes to play in the second frame of overtime. Izzy Glannon scored the winning goal.

Ritchie's goal started with a free kick about 40 yards from goal by Kaili Gregory. She served a floating ball into the wind toward the right side of the penalty area that clattered between Kennedy Yearby and a few defenders. As the ball went to ground, Yearby stayed with the play and touched a pass back to Ritchie. She tucked a right-footed shot past Mariel Gordon's dive and inside the far post.

Cornell looked to be on the road to its first victory since August until Dartmouth equalized in the 89th minute. A ball in the midfield fell to the feet of leading scorer Remy Borinsky, who made a run up the right side. With the Big Red outnumbered on that side, Borinsky was free to send a ball from a tight angle toward the goal mouth that was flicked on by the foot of Hayley Soriano, off the far post and into the net.

The winner came in the 105th minute. Erin Kawakami sent a pass to Glennon in the right side of the penalty area. She turned to beat her defender wide, then ripped a shot under the crossbar.

Senior co-captain Meghan Kennedy made eight saves for the Big Red, leading the Ivy League in saves for a second straight year. She was also aided by clearances off the line in quick succession by Ritchie and Naomi Jaffe.

Before the game, Cornell held its annual Senior Day ceremony to commemorate the final collegiate games in the careers of Carolyn Ruoff, Kennedy and Ritchie.

Cornell ends its season 1-13-1 overall and 0-7 in Ivy League play.
