NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Big Red volleyball team put up a fight but could not play spoiler as Yale clinched a share of the Ivy League title with a 3-0 victory this evening in Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs won, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23, to improve to 18-4 overall and 12-1 in the Ivy League. With the loss, Cornell fell to 12-10 on the season and 8-5 in conference play.
Samanta Arenas led the Big Red with 10 kills, 14 digs and five block assists.
Jillienne Bennett finished with nine kills and hit a team-high .192 on the evening. Libero
Lily Barber tallied a match-high 16 digs, while
Madison Baptiste (15) and
Zoe Chamness (11) posted double-digits. Chamness also handed out 25 assists.
Kelley Wirth and Ellis DeJardin combined for 27 of Yale's 43 total kills on the night, as Wirth posted 17 kills and a team-high .220 hitting percentage. Libero Kate Swanson led four Bulldogs in double-digits with 14 digs, while Frances Arnautou had 28 assists and 12 digs.
Cornell will look to amass the most Ivy wins in a single season (9) since 2008 when it travels to 11-12 Brown tomorrow night to face the Bears in the season finale at 5 p.m. at the Pizzitola Center.
